Occipital Artery Bypass

Posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) aneurysms generally require surgical management. In this procedure the occipital artery is anastomosed with the caudal loop of PICA. The skin and occipital muscle are incised and the dura is opened, exposing the cerebellum, caudal loop of PICA, and the brainstem. The occipital artery is dissected and and end to side anastomosis is created with the caudal loop of PICA.
